A Story and an Ask!

A story to share, and an ask…

This September, I’ll be riding the 2026 Cardiac Challenge from Cairns to Cooktown and this year is extra special as it marks the 20th anniversary of this incredible event.

For 20 years, hundreds of cyclists from around Australia and overseas have come to tropical Far North Queensland to saddle up for this ride, raising vital funds for the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation and cardiac services across our region.

Over the years, this event has raised millions of dollars and made a real difference to local families and patients.

So why do people sign up to ride 333km over three days, up mountains, across plains, and all the way to Cooktown?

Because we are all slightly bonkers!

Well… that, and then there is the real reason.

This is a cause very close to my heart. I’m riding in memory of my Dad, and for the many families whose lives are touched by heart disease every day.

The Cardiac Challenge was originally inspired by Pete McNally, who was born with congenital heart issues and wanted to raise funds to improve cardiac care in Far North Queensland while bringing people together through cycling.

That spirit is still very much alive.

Doctors, nurses, former patients, business leaders, parents, retirees and riders like me all come together for one purpose. To support better cardiac care for our community.

It’s also one of those rare experiences that is both incredibly tough and incredibly joyful.

Three days of riding through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, a lot of sweat, a few hills I may question my life choices on, plenty of laughs, and a wonderful sense of camaraderie.

So here is my ask.
