What are we fundraising for?

We are raising funds to purchase new bedside ultrasound equipment for the Sub‑Acute Care Unit on Oregon Street.This unit operates as an external ward of Cairns Hospital, providing essential care for older people and patients undergoing rehabilitation.

This upgraded technology will enable clinicians to perform quick, comfortable, and accurate assessments right at the bedside—reducing delays, improving patient comfort, and supporting faster, better‑informed clinical decisions.

By signing up for the BDO Arrow Experience: Wangetti Edition 2026, you’re doing far more than taking on the trail — you’re directly helping the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation improve health care for our region. Because the Foundation covers its own operating costs through its social enterprises, 100% of every dollar you raise goes straight toward funding vital equipment, services, training, and research for our local hospitals.


These are some of the projects our trail walkers have helped us to achieve:

Donate for DaNi

In 2024 and 2025, our trail walkers helped us raise $137,483 for the Donate for DaNi: Surgical Robot campaign - revolutionising surgical care, enhancing precision, reducing recovery times, and improving outcomes for patients across our region.

Cancer Care Hub

In 2023, our trail walkers helped us raise $93,722 for the Cancer Care Hub campaign - expanding facilities at Cairns Hospital and supporting in-house chemotherapy production, additional chemotherapy chairs and treatment rooms, and a new outdoor relaxation area for patients and families.

Neoprobes

In 2022, our trail walkers helped us raise close to $90,000 for Gamma Detection Probes - vital equipment used to identify cancerous lymph nodes and guide decisions about additional treatment, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Tomosynthesis Machine

In 2021, our trail walkers helped us raise close to $80,000 for increased diagnostic services - funding a second tomosynthesis machine to speed up patient testing and reduce delays from technical issues.

The Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation  is a locally driven, not‑for‑profit charity dedicated to improving public health care for everyone across Far North Queensland. Since our establishment in 1997, we’ve proudly supported the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service, helping provide better care to more than 285,000 people from Tully to the Torres Strait.
