I am fundraising for..
THIS IS WHY I RIDE
I have friends whom I have grown up with and their Son was born with a Heart Problem and has had several Heart Surgeries since he was a little baby. By Riding to Cooktown, I am raising much needed funds so that his family and many other families to come don’t have to fly all the way down to Brisbane or Melbourne or Sydney for Surgery and get it done up here thus not disrupting the families by having to travel so far from home and their loved ones. Also, I am riding as these little Children can’t do the ride and raise funds themselves so I am doing it on their behalf.
Heart disease is a major health issue in Far North Queensland, which has a larger-than-state-average percentage of both older and Indigenous residents, who are susceptible to developing cardiac problems.
The diagnosis and treatment of heart disease can also be challenging in the Far North, due to the number of remote communities that do not have ready access to specialised health services.
Even cardiac patients who live in the city of Cairns may find themselves compelled to leave home, family and friends, and travel to a hospital in Townsville or Brisbane to undergo a surgical procedure that Cairns Hospital is not currently equipped to handle.
But thanks to the Cardiac Challenge, things are changing.
The Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation is solely dedicated to raising funds to improve health care services for residents in this region.
I’m taking on the challenge of riding to Cooktown for one simple reason: to make a real difference in the lives of people in our community. Heart disease touches so many of us—whether it’s a family member, a friend, or even ourselves. By supporting this ride, we’re helping fund vital cardiac services that save lives right here in Far North Queensland.
Every kilometre I pedal is a step closer to better care, more advanced equipment, and improved outcomes for those who need it most. It’s not just a bike ride; it’s a way to give back to the community, inspire others, and show that together, we can achieve something incredible.
Please join me on this journey — whether it’s by cheering us on, spreading the word, or making a donation. Every little bit helps bring us closer to ensuring everyone in our region has access to world-class cardiac care.
Thank you for being part of this ride with me!
