In memory of Dennis Howe

A rural legend and second-generation farmer Dennis Howe, passed away in Mareeba hospital on June 7, 2025 after a prolonged illness.

He was considered an agribusiness trailblazer – in 2016 he was chosen ‘ABC Farming Legend and Innovator of the Year’. Dennis was a visionary and perceived as an industry leader, pioneer and entrepreneur. He was forward thinking and innovative with a diverse approach whose vision and hard work showed there were ways to expand agriculture on the Atherton Tableland. Dennis revolutionised farming on the Tableland, challenged the norm and led the way by growing bananas. Dennis had a generosity about him and was willing to share his knowledge with other people.

He was respected and loved, generous, kind, humble, non-materialistic and treated everyone as an equal. Dennis silently gave and assisted staff and people in the community who were in need and going through tough times.

He will be greatly missed by his family, staff, friends, associates and the broader community.

Dennis received exceptional care at the Mareeba Hospital from the doctors, nurses and all staff and we are most grateful for this.

The Mareeba Hospital would greatly benefit from additional equipment and support. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Mareeba Friends of the Foundation in support of the Mareeba Hospital East Wing.
