The Atherton community is often pleasantly surprised by the dedication of the local Friends of the Foundation and their committed volunteers. Strongly supported, the group has seen a surge in interest, with many recently signing up to help with the patient trolley service.

Bingo is one of their key fundraisers, and it’s been a community favourite since 1991, with weekly games held every Tuesday. Impressively, three of the volunteers running Bingo have been there for over 30 years!

Your Impact

Atherton Hospital’s Day Surgery unit now has a new ultrasound machine, improving patient care for a range of procedures, including guided foreign body removal, cyst examinations, anaesthetic assessments, and critical care diagnostics. This advanced equipment allows clinicians to provide more precise and efficient treatment, reducing the need for patients to travel elsewhere for specialised care.

The ultrasound was made possible thanks to a generous $20,000 donation from local resident Tom Draper, who wanted to give back to the hospital after receiving exceptional treatment for a hand injury.

A new Trust Care Walker is making a real difference for patients at Atherton Hospital, thanks to the generosity of local donors. Designed for people with limited use of one arm, this specialised walker is helping patients regain mobility and independence following injury. Already in use on the wards, it has played a vital role in rehabilitation, enabling quicker home trials and speeding up hospital discharge. This important addition to the hospital’s physiotherapy equipment is helping patients recover safely and return home sooner.

Patients undergoing rehabilitation at Atherton Hospital now have access to a vital signs observation tower, thanks to generous community support. Located in the physiotherapy gym, the tower helps ensure patients are fit to participate in group exercise programs, including falls prevention, cardiac, and pulmonary rehabilitation. It also provides speech pathologists with more accurate oxygen level monitoring during swallowing assessments. With this new equipment, clinicians can deliver safer, more effective care, supporting better health outcomes for patients close to home.

Thanks to the generosity of the Atherton community, the Emergency Department at Atherton Hospital has a new Electrocardiogram (ECG) to help detect cardiac abnormalities. This vital piece of equipment enhances clinicians’ ability to diagnose heart conditions quickly, leading to faster treatment and better patient outcomes. Importantly, it means more patients can receive the care they need in Atherton, rather than having to travel to Cairns for assessment.
